SAMPLE TEST QUESTIONS

2001

under construction

These are sample test questions. At the end of each chapter, you should be able to solve these efficiently and correctly. It is the purpose of the lectures and the text to provide you with the basic knowledge and techniques. It is the purpose of the homework to provide you with the necessary practice and experience. It is the purpose of the tests to see if you have learned the basic material and can apply it and the mathematical techniques to the solution of problems similar to the ones covered in the examples and the homework as well as new situations.

The numbers in parentheses with each question is the number of points that question would be worth. A chapter test would consist of 100 points and the final exam would be 200 points.

Note that a chapter test takes 60 minutes. Therefore, consider the point values as also an indication of the time to spend on a particular problem. If you take 5 minutes for each 10 points, then you will finish in 50 minutes and have some time to check over the test before turning it in.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH TEST

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer ALL questions. No notes, BOOK, neighbors, or other animate or inanimate aid allowed (supernatural is fine!) except a calculator, pencil or pen, and eraser. It is suggested that you look over the entire Test first and answer those questions that you feel you know the best. BUDGET your time! Show your work to receive partial credit where appropriate. Mark the final answer. If you need extra space, use the back of these sheets and direct the reader to them--unless otherwise noted only these pages will be graded.
