Path to College AlgebraSo you need College Algebra. Wonderful! The concepts presented unlocks the door to the quantitative and analytical thought and rewards of being able to utilize abstract thinking! However, you do need a good foundation in algebra. College Algebra, MATH 110, covers the same concepts as high school Algebra II. Basic differences are:
Mathematics can be challenging and enjoyable. A basic key is to attempt a math course at your existing level of mathematical understanding. Nothing is more frustrating than attempting a course that builds upon concepts that you are not familiar with. It is better, easier, and may take less time and money to start at the proper level and build up until your math requirements have been met.
Note: Precalculus is an acceptable substitute for College Algebra. It consists of many of the same concepts taught at a faster pace in order to include elements of trigonometry. Note: the basic algebra and algebra courses given above typically, while being offered in colleges and universities (SWAU lists them as Beginning Algebra, MATH 011, and Intermediate Algebra, MATH 012) any credit earned does not apply toward completing degree requirements. They also go by a number of different names. SWAU does not offer them through the Adult Degree Program. If they are needed, then check to see if they might available at a local community college. |
